The Shadow
This series explores the concept of the shadow—the psychological component of our psyche that is omnipresent yet invisible to us, residing in the unconscious. Being larger than the conscious mind, this realm remains hidden, containing all that is repressed and all we refuse to see, unless we project it outward or discover meaning through the symbols of our unconscious.
Just as our psyche operates through what remains unseen, photography records light that activates the film or sensor. The parts without light are not recorded, yet they hold enormous value. Without shadows, an image becomes unintelligible; with too much shadow, it loses coherence entirely. I believe we must focus our attention not only on the object illuminated by light but on the shadows it casts, for it is the shadow that holds the vital energy of the scene.
